What is a Qualified Medical Evaluator?

A Qualified Medical Evaluator is an independent physician certified by the Industrial Medical Council to perform medical evaluations, such as in legal disputes related to worker's compensation cases.

During the evaluation, the Qualified Medical Evaluator collects all of the patient's pertinent information, including medical records, and performs a comprehensive examination. The cause of a condition, the state of the current condition, work restrictions and the "rating" of the injury are often particular points of interest. A comprehensive report will be submitted to and reviewed by the Industrial Medical Council to make a final decision on the case and often to establish a patient's disability status.
